In betting, a 'double or nothing' bet is an even money wager in which you either double your money or lose your entire bet. For instance - let's say that you decide to wager with a friend on a Manchester City game and lose. You may say to him - 'I'll bet you that Man City wins next week at home against Manchester United - double or nothing?' : with the result that a gambler either wins two times as much money as he or she has already won or loses all of the money I won $20 on the first game but lost it on the second game going double or nothing. Learn More about double or nothing Share double. The Double or Nothing game consists of a standard playing deck of 52 cards and 2 jokers. It's up to you to bet on whether the randomly overturned card will be a Red Card or a Black Card. Guess right, and you double your money. Guess the wrong color or land a joker and you lose. The double or nothing feature in video poker is the only other casino bet, besides the odds in craps, with no house edge. Whether or not you take it depends on your reason for playing. If you are playing a negative-expectation game, for purposes of entertainment, then I think you should accept the double-up option in moderation, depending on on your desire or aversion to volatility. The reason is that it is better to play a game with zero house edge than a positive one. However, you have to balance that against your tolerance for risk. If you are fortunate to be playing a positive-expectation game, then I would decline the opportunity to double.
The double up feature is truly fair and has no house edge. This is one of the few times I say you can go either way and just do what you want. From what I know of how slots are programmed the cards you get in the double up screen are not what you would have got on the next hand. Random numbers are constantly being drawn and those chosen at the exact moment you hit 'deal' determine what cards you get.
You are of course quoting me from my March 24 column. This is a good and fair question. I should point out that taking or laying the odds in craps does not help the player to win more, only to bet more at no additional expense. The reason I encourage craps players to bet on the odds is that it is the cheapest bet on the table and is truly a craps bet. All odds, as well as place, buy, and lay bets win if one number is thrown before another. This is a very fundamental aspect of the game. It only makes sense for the player to make the bet with the lowest house edge. Refusing the odds in craps to bet on something else instead is like refusing a free coffee refill in a restaurant and instead buying another cup.
As I pointed out in the last column some video poker games allow the player to make a double or nothing bet with no house edge. The reason I am not as forceful about taking this bet is that it does not follow the flow of video poker. The video poker player is generally not there to make a mindless even money bet. Gambling should be thought of as entertainment, for which the player should expect to pay for. If the player doesn't get any entertainment value out of the double up feature then he shouldn't pay for it, even with no house edge. So my advice to the video poker player is make the double up bet if you enjoy it, otherwise don't.
This question refers to advice I gave in my newsletter, suggesting video poker players take the double up option when playing for a bonus at a Playtech casino. Doubling up does not lower the house edge of video poker, but does introduce another bet with zero house edge. For the same reason you should take or lay odds in craps it cuts the overall house edge playing video poker if you take the double up feature. Playtech does count double up bets towards the play requirement, so it gets the player to the bonus with less expected loss. So unless you are playing a machine with a return of over 100% and you don't mind extra volatility then I recommend accepting the double up option.
I understand that at least with some machines the number of doubles is configurable but is usually set to 4 or 5. How many times you should take the double up depends on how good or bad the pay table is and your tolerance for risk. If your goal is to achieve the highest expected return then you should double up the maximum number of times, or at least until a win would put your over the W2G threshold of $1200. When I play negative pay tables online I usually double up to $100 to $1000, depending on how much action I have to grind through and my winning goal. My advice is to ask yourself how much you are comfortable betting on the turn of a card and keep doubling up to that point.
Double Or Nothing Bet Rules
Just to attract customers who like it. It definitely lowers hands per hour, and thus profits, but if they get extra players it may be worth it.
Any legitimate game maker has the double up feature as a truly fair bet with a 100% return. So you have a 50/50 chance of winning any given bet (not counting ties) regardless of the amount bet or the results of past bets.
It depends on your reason for playing. If you are trying to achieve some winning goal, like doubling your bankroll, then you should keep doubling until you reach your goal, or you reach the maximum number of doubles allowed. If you are trying to play as long as possible on a given bankroll, then I would double only on small wins, and then only once. If you have some combination of both goals, then I would have a mixed strategy. The more important winning is to you, the more aggressive you should be doubling. The more important 'time on device' is to you, the less you should be.
On May 25th, 2019 AEW debuted with Double or Nothing. It was the first show of a brand new wrestling company, the first company to bring a real challenge to WWE since the death of WCW, and one of the biggest non-WWE shows in years. The show sold out in 30 minutes and got nearly 100,000 buys. The success of the show changed the wrestling world and one year later, AEW is back with Double or Nothing in a completely different world.
The show was set to take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas just like last year's show, but it ended up being moved to the empty arena Daily's Place thanks to the events of the world. AEW has done a good job of making their sure still feel alive during the age of empty arenas and this show should be no different.

The show will see the crowning of the first ever AEW TNT Champion as well with Cody taking on Lance Archer in the finals of the tournament. The issue has gotten personal between the two so there is a lot more at stake than simply the TNT Championship. In another championship match, Nyla Rose will defend the AEW Women's Championship match against Hikaru Shida. The show will also see the first ever 'Casino Ladder Match' with the winner earning a future shot at the AEW World Championship.

- AEW TNT Championship: Lance Archer (-150) vs. Cody (+110)
- AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley (-250) vs. Brodie Lee (+170)
The Best Friends take on Private Party on the Buy-In pre-show. Best Friends have been on fire during the pandemic and have really been climbing up the rankings. While Private Party haven't been around much due to quarantine. Best Friends are 6-3 in 2020 while Private Party is 3-1. This one is a coin-flip for me.
MJF is coming off a win against Cody and faces Jungle Boy tonight. It feels like MJF would've been in a much bigger match in a non-pandemic world, like against Moxley level, and that is what is probably making him such a huge favorite here. This should be a really fun match, but I see little doubt that MJF gets the win here.
Britt Baker and Kris Statlander is an interesting match-up as Britt Baker has been one of the hottest stars in the world of wrestling over the past several months. She's done that without a whole lot of actual winning which surprised me to see her as such a big favorite here. That said, you do have to strike when the iron is hot and the iron is definitely hot with Baker right now.
The Casino Ladder match will see two participants start with a new entrant coming out every 90 seconds. Scorpio Sky seems like the favorite here, but that mystery man is really going to mess things up. What if it's a huge star debuting? What if it's Cody trying to get an AEW World title shot?
Hikaru Shida and Nyla Rose is a tough one for me. Rose won the title in February, but thanks to the pandemic it feels like she hasn't really defended it much at all. Hikaru Shida has been one of the most consistent performers in AEW's women's division with a 13-5 overall record. This match will be no disqualification and no countout which definitely favors Rose.
Lance Archer is a -177 favorite against Cody, but I am surprised it is not a whole lot higher. Archer has been an absolute monster since his debut and it is way too early in his run for him to be defeated. Cody has shown he can take a loss and not lose his place in the pecking order either, so I am all over Archer here.

Another reason I can't see Archer losing is because the other unstoppable monster in AEW, Brodie Lee, is absolutely going to lose here. Jon Moxley is making his first huge defense of the title and I can't imagine him losing it here to a guy fresh off of a WWE run. Mox is an enormous favorite and he should justify that with a win here.
Double Or Nothing Betekenis
The Stadium Stampede match between the Elite and Inner Circle could absolutely main event this show. I could see them doing the whole unsanctioned thing in order to get it into that slot as it is likely to be so crazy that it is hard to top. The Inner Circle are favored here, but I'm wondering if this match will actually end up being the blow-off that Blood & Guts was meant to be.
